The Bay of Islands Aero Club is a registered club and has been operating since the 1970s. It is based at Kerikeri Airport and has a clubroom and hangarage next to the airport terminal. We offer introductory trial flights and flying lessons for microlight and private pilot licenses in our two aircraft. Read more about our history.
Chief Flight Instructor (PPL) and Treasurer
John learnt to fly gliders in 1968 and powered aircraft in 1970 and became an instructor in 1976. John operates his own company from the BOI Aero Club teaching PPL (General Aviation) and Microlight flying. Visit his site at flyitnz.com or phone 027 359 4869.
Microlight Instructor
Willy learnt to fly in 1980 and has an instructor rating for Microlight flying. Willy is also an Authorised Testing Officer and a pilot for the Kerikeri Coastguard Air Patrol. Phone him on 021 0811 6612.
Club Secretary
Iain has been flying recreationally for over four years and can often be seen over the skies of the Bay of Islands in his replica Tiger Moth. Iain has a microlight license.
Young Eagles Program Leader & Communications Manager
Daniel joined the club in 2024 after moving north from Auckland and took up his lifelong dream of learning to fly. Daniel is currently pursuing his private pilot license (PPL).
